Gene Lavanchy is an American award-winning journalist, and radio, and television personality working for Boston 25 News where he serves as a co-host of WFXT’s Boston 25 Morning News in Boston. He co-hosts the show with Kim Carrigan.

Lavanchy is a co-host of WFXT’s Boston 25 Morning News in Boston. Prior to joining Boston 25 Morning News, Gene spent ten years as a sports director and lead sports anchor at WHDH-TV in Boston. Lavanchy is one of the most recognizable anchors in Boston. He was a vital part of the Boston 25 Morning News launch back in 2003. The “all local, all morning long” blend of news, traffic, and weather started as an alternative to national morning shows and has grown into the “go-to” newscast for busy morning people.
He started off his journalism career in 1983 at WJCC-AM radio (now WDIS AM 1170) in Norfolk, Massachusetts as a sports writer and producer. From radio he crossed over to television in 1986, covering sports at WBBH-TV in Fort Myers, Florida, in 1988 he was a sports anchor at WLNE-TV in Providence, Rhode Island, and also served as host of WSBK-TV’s Boston Bruins telecasts.
In Boston in 1993, Gene came onto the news scene at WHDH he became their sports director and sports anchor in 1994. With time, he also hosted WHDH’s “Sports Xtra” Sunday late-night sports program, where he would interview and discuss current topics with many local New England sports stars. Gene then got an opportunity at WFXT in August 2003. He currently co-hosts with Kim Carrigan, who had also left WHDH. The duo leads one of Boston’s most popular morning news shows.
He has also field-anchored Boston 25 Morning News’ popular Zip Trips for the past 14 seasons. He has broadcast live and met thousands of amazing people from more than 230 cities and towns across the state.
