DiNardo started off as an assistant coach at the University of Colorado from 1982 to 1990, guiding the Buffaloes to a national championship in 1990. He then became the head coach of Vanderbilt University from 1990 to 1994 and was voted Coach of the Year in 1991. From 1995 to 1999 DiNardo was the head coach at Louisiana State University, where he led the team to 3 straight bowl appearances from 1995-1997. He then became the head coach for Indiana University from 2002 to 2004.

DiNardo later became a college football analyst with ESPN and ESPN Radio’s College GameDay for two years. He was then named the on-air analyst for BTN in July 2007, where he has served to the present. DiNardo also works as a college football expert for WSCR’s Boers and Bernstein radio show in Chicago. He additionally owned DeAgelo’s Italian Restaurant in Bloomington, Indiana.
