Hari Nef is a prominent American actress, writer, and modeler. Her breakthrough role was Gittel in the Amazon original series Transparent for which she was nominated for a SAG award in 2016. In the Spring of 2015, she made her runway debut at New York Fashion Week walking for both Hood By Air and Eckhaus Latta. Subsequently, she became the first openly transgender woman signed to IMG Models. She then became the first openly transgender woman to appear on the cover of a major British magazine. Moreover, she has written on a breadth of topics from fine arts and film to sex, gender, and transgender identity.

She starred as Tante Gittel in the 2015 Emmy-winning television series Transparent. Her character is a Pfefferman family ancestor that lived her life as a cross-dresser in Berlin, Germany during the Weimar Republic and eventually was murdered during the Holocaust. Because of the role, she received a 2016 SAG Award nomination. In 2018, she starred as a major lead in Sam Levinson’s comedy thriller Assassination Nation. Aso in 2018, she had a recurring role as Blythe on the Lifetime psychological thriller television series You.
That same year, she made her New York theater debut as a lead in Jeremy O. Harris’ Daddy. Next, she starred alongside Ruby Rose, Paris Berelc, Taylor Zakhar Perez, and Nicholas Coombe in the comedy film 1Up in 2022. It was announced in August that she would portray Candy Darling in a biopic by Transparent writer Stephanie Kornick.
