She investigated the probate courts in Southeast Michigan and caused the passage of Public Acts 13-14 of 2018. As a result of her work, three public officials were dismissed and terminated, and the way Public Administrators handled probate estates after someone’s death was changed. She instigated a First Amendment battle with a local judge and lawyers through her investigation into probate court guardianships. Due to her work, reform legislation was introduced in Lansing.

Aside from her guardianship and conservatorship system reporting, she is known for delivering some of the broadest broadcasts of the unforgettable Kilpatrick Corruption Trial. She investigated the Wayne County government causing dismissals, suspensions, terminations, and impeachments of previous County Executive Robert Ficano’s appointees. Her work also caused a broad FBI investigation into corruption insinuations in that administration.

Catallo’s previous investigations disputed the nation’s foster care system, uncovered faults in the methods by which some children are separated from their parents, and forced one court to swap its policies on child removal hearings. She also uncovered a state adoption hoax scheme and did undercover reporting that showed how the main suspect in the case violated her bond getting her in federal prison.

Catallo has received some of the highest honors in journalism. She received the DuPont-Columbia Award and 19 EMMY awards including for Best Reporter and Best Investigative Reporter. Her work was mentioned by the Investigative Reporters and Editors, Inc. (IRE) as among the state’s best reporting. For her probate investigation, she received a Regional Edward R. Murrow Award.

In 2013, the Michigan Association of Broadcasters named her Reporter of the Year. Also, she won Reporter of the Year in 2007, 2009, and 2010.
