Hilary Farr is a British-Canadian designer, businesswoman, TV host, and former actress best known for co-hosting Love It or List It with David Visentin since it premiered on September 8, 2008. Additionally, she co-hosts Tough Love which premiered on December 20, 2021.
Hilary Farr Career
Farr’s career started in Los Angeles where she bought and renovated homes. She has revamped and designed properties in Australia, the United Kingdom, California, New York, and Toronto. Moreover, she has worked for notable celebrities like Jennifer Hudson’s Chicago loft and Jenna Elfman’s home.
Aside from her design career, she worked as a film and television set designer. Also, she acted under the name Hilary Labow and had minor roles in films like Layout for 5 Models, Sex Farm, Feel the Width, Never Mind the Quality, The Rocky Horror Picture Show, Legend of the Werewolf, City on Fire, and The Return. Moreover, she had a singing role in Grease in London in 1973. In the early 80s, she had minor roles in TV sitcoms.
In 2008, she returned to Toronto after a divorce. She then signed as a co-host of Love It or List It along with David Visentin. In 2010, she appeared as a judge on W Network’s Search for the Next W Expert. The following year, she made several guest appearances at the Canadian International Interior Design Show and worked as a host in Toronto, Edmonton, and Vancouver. Further, she appeared as a guest on The Marilyn Denis Show.
Farr works as a regular contributor to the Huffington Post. She appeared as a guest and design expert at the Art Van Furniture convention in Orland Park and Chicago, Illinois, in June 2014. In 2016, she played Malignicent(commonly known as Maleficent) in Ross Petty’s stage version of Sleeping Beauty at the Elgin Theatre in Toronto. The following year, she helped found a real estate investment seminar series Rules of Renovation.

Farr alongside realtor David Visentin co-hosted Love It or List It since it premiered on September 8, 2008. In the show, she and David compete for the homeowners’ final decision to renovate or sell their deemed too far-gone homes. She tries to convince the homeowners that she could revamp their old house into something they would love within their budget. However, David provides the homeowners insider perspective on the real estate market to help them list their current house and buy a new one.
At the end of each episode, the homeowners either “Love It,” meaning that they will still live in their current home with the renovations, or “List It,” meaning that they will purchase one of the homes David showed them and trade their current home.
After 19 seasons on the show, Farr left the show in 2023. In her words, “…I’ve given it so many years of my life, It’s got me through hard times…But now it’s time for me to move on and meet new challenges…” She also said that she hoped David would find a new co-host.

In December 2021, Farr disclosed that she had been diagnosed with and treated for breast cancer in 2014. In 2012, she was diagnosed with a precancerous tumor which she had surgically removed. She then had a mammogram that showed she had developed malignant breast cancer. As a result, she underwent radiation therapy and further surgical intervention.
