Roden attended Hockaday School, an all-girls private school. Coming from a medical family, Roden majored in molecular biology and women’s studies at UCLA, and spent three and a half years in pre-medical education with a view to becoming a cardiothoracic surgeon before taking up acting full-time.
She starred in the cancelled HBO series 12 Miles of Bad Road playing Bronwyn. In 2008, Roden played Emily Locke in Lost and Skye in the film Bring It On: Fight to the Finish.
From 2008 to 2010, Roden appeared in guest roles on television series including Weeds, Grey’s Anatomy, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, Community, Cold Case, and Criminal Minds.
On May 25, 2017, it was announced that Roden would play the lead in the third season of Syfy’s horror anthology series Channel Zero, titled Butcher’s Block (originally titled Staircases), which is based on the online Creepypasta stories. Roden portrayed Zoe Woods, a young woman who struggles with mental illness. The show premiered on February 7, 2018.

On September 12, 2018, Roden was cast in an upcoming horror film Untitled Social Media Thriller, which will be directed, produced and written by Will Wernick.
