Jaie Avila is an American journalist working for WOAI as an investigative reporter since joining the station in 2004. Previously, he worked for KABC and KCBS in Los Angeles as a reporter for eight years.

He investigated towing company practices which made officials decrease the amount those companies can charge an individual to get their car back. Following his story, the company was charged with fraud and paid back the money. Also, he did a hidden-camera investigation that found city utility workers sleeping on the job.
Previously, he worked for KABC and KCBS in Los Angeles as a reporter for eight years. While there, he broadcasted the O.J. Simpson civil case, the Kobe Bryant sexual assault trial, and the North Hollywood Shootout. His on-screen career started in Austin at KXAN. There, he worked as a weekend anchor and general assignment reporter from 1991 to 1994.
While in Austin, he broadcast the Luby’s cafeteria massacre, the Branch Davidian standoff, and political stories from the state capitol. He worked in Phoenix as KNXV’s investigative reporter. The Associated Press gave him the “Reporter of the Year” Award for his investigation into food stamp fraud. Before starting his on-screen career, he served KCAL in Los Angeles as a producer and writer, at FOX 11 in Los Angeles as an assistant producer, and as a researcher for Good Morning America.
