Hurts played football while at Channelview High School. In his senior year, he passed for twenty-six touchdown passes and 2,384 yards, rushing for 25 touchdowns and 1,391 yards. As a sophomore, he was a 2-team all-district selection. As a junior, he was named the District 21-6A Overall MVP. Over the course of his high school career, he was ranked one of the top dual-threat quarterbacks and rated as a 4-star recruit, in the Class of 2016.

Other than football, he was also involved in powerlifting while in high school. In his sophomore year, he squatted 500 lbs and ultimately become a regional finalist in the 198-pound weight class.

Hurts was passionate and dedicated to the University of Alabama, regardless of Texas A&M making a strong push to recruit him. Lane Kiffin (offensive coordinator) and Bo Davis (defensive line coach) recruited Hurts to the University of Alabama’s football team “The Alabama Crimson Tide”. As a freshman in the year 2016, contested to open the season as the starting quarterback. However, he took over the starting role of the 2nd game. Hurts threw for 23 touchdowns and 2,780 yards, with 9 interceptions.

Hurts completed the season with a quarterback rating of 139.12, rushing for 13 touchdowns and 954 yards overall, breaking the single-season record of the school for rushing yards by a quarterback. He surpassed the previous record of Steadman Shealy of 791 yards. Hurts completed the 2016 season with a total of 36 touchdowns – he broke the last record for touchdowns in one season for the Crimson Tide (35) set by Blake Sims in the year 2014. Hurts also became 1st player in the history of Alabama to pass for three hundred yards, rushing for 100 yards in one game. 2020 (Rookie Season)

Hurts has been playing for Philadelphia Eagles since the 2nd round of the 2020 NFL Draft. Joining the team, he became the team’s starter near the end of his rookie season. He was named the 3rd string quarterback under Nate Sudfeld and then held the backup position in the second week. Coming to the end of the year 2020, he threw for 1 interception and 72 yards, rushing for 2 touchdowns and 34 yards. This was before he was benched in Sudfeld’s favor during the 20–14 loss.

2021

In this season, Hurts’s jersey number changed to 1. He was named the starter for the regular season on August 31, 2021. The season began with the game; Philadelphia Eagles vs the Atlanta Falcons.
