Bryant is the pastor of New Birth Missionary Baptist Church located in a suburb of Atlanta, Georgia. He became the church’s pastor in 2018 after longtime controversial pastor Bishop Eddie L. Long died in 2017. In December 2018, he transitioned from Empowerment Temple African Methodist Episcopal Church in Baltimore, Maryland to Atlanta, Georgia to pastor New Birth Missionary Baptist Church in DeKalb County.

In addition to that, he led the funeral for Freddie Gray, 25, who suffered a fatal spinal cord injury in 2015 as he was arrested and severely beaten by police. Furthermore, he advocated for social justice issues like the Black Lives Matter movement and finding justice for Breonna Taylor. Bryant wrote on Instagram, “The movement is growing! Not only do we want criminal justice reform but economic equality as well.”

Members are challenged to live life at the next level through Dr. Bryant’s brilliant illumination of the Word of God and dynamic delivery. His celebrity status also grew as he appeared on “The Real Housewives of Potomac” alongside his ex-wife, Gizelle. Since his installation, the church has grown despite their new pastor’s infidelity, which led to his divorce in 2009.

Long at one time had grown the church to an estimated 25,000 members, but those numbers dwindled after four men who attended the church accused Long of coercing them into sexual relationships. He is the host of the Got Power? television broadcast which is seen in 35 cities in the U.S. and the radio broadcast is currently heard by a half million people across the continent of Africa. Officials of the A.M.E. denomination intended, as of February 2008, to enter into discussions regarding Bryant’s leadership, following mutual filings for divorce by Bryant, his spouse, Hampton alumna, and future Real Housewives of Potomac star Gizelle Bryant. However, they said that Bryant did not face a disciplinary trial because no one came forward with a complaint against him. Church officials said that Bryant “was never charged through the church system with anything.” In 2019, the two renewed their relationship and began dating again.
