There, he took Atmospheric Science and Meteorology which shaped his passion for the study of weather and atmospheric dynamics. Hopkins then transferred to Mississippi State University to pursue more knowledge. In 2007, he was delighted to graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Meteorology. Moving to West Virginia and working in WOWK/WVNS in Charleston, Hopkins worked for 3 years. He found a way to do it in West Virginia, where he improved his knowledge of forecasting snow and turned into a part of the morning team that earned the ‘Best AM Newscast’ award with the help of TV West Virginia company and the support of the West Virginia Broadcasters Association. He was particularly memorable while reporting ‘Super Storm Sandy’.

On one day, Hopkins reported about a tornado, and on the second day, he also reported about the same tornado. That following spring, a powerful storm in the form of a Derecho tore across the state, really ripping all kinds of things up and managing to knock out electrical power for almost two weeks. All these issues did not faze Hopkins since he approached them with determination and efficiency. Before West Virginia, Hopkins was at WJCL/WTGS in Savannah, Georgia for more than a year. There, he indulged in his first passion: used in the prediction of tropical weather. He followed a strong hurricane known as Hurricane Irene that reached The Outer Banks situated in North Carolina.

Before joining the ABC affiliate TV station Hopkins worked at KKCO-TV in Grand Junction, Colorado. It is in western Colorado that such weather-related activities took place against the backdrop of rocky expanses. Hopkins as an individual is hardworking, persistent, and passionate about the societies he is in. His travel has covered snowy mountains and hot beaches and has marred the face of this world of meteorology.
