Jason Appelbaum Biography

Jason Appelbaum is an American Emmy award-winning journalist working as a sports anchor and reporter at KTVU Fox 2 in Oakland, CA. He has been working for the station since July 2015.

Jason’s interest in and love for sports started at a very young age. It came through bonding moments with my family, Watching football and golf as a kid with his grandfather, and going to the fabulous Forum in LA to check out Magic Johnson and the Showtime Lakers with his father in the 80s.

After high school Jason studied at the University of California at Santa Cruz though where sports wasn’t a huge part of the scene as a junior, later on after a year in Spain, he made football a major focus when he coached the startup Madrid Panthers to a 3rd place finish in their first year of existence. Jason Appelbaum Career

Appelbaum is a sports anchor and reporter at KTVU Fox 2. He interned at the NBC affiliate in San Francisco for five months before finally landing a job there as a producer. This happened by being ready to jump in when the station’s weekend producer left. He served at the station for almost 10 years there before heading south for another job opportunity.

In the south, Jason worked as a sports producer for the CBS affiliate in Los Angeles for a year and a half then moved back to Bay Area and became the Executive Sports Producer at KRON. At KRON Jason was thrilled when he won an Emmy for producing a one-hour sports special.

Jason got an opportunity in July 2015 at KTVU Fox 2 to do more on-air work and be the leader of the sports department with their ever-expanding sports presence, both on-air and online. He is thrilled to be part of the team that offers championship teams in major professional sports, as well as top programs on the collegiate level with Cal and Stanford, and most of all the widespread, in-depth coverage by FOX Sports.
