Jay Hendricks Biography

Jay Hendricks is an American journalist working for CBS 7 News as a co-anchor of the 5, 6, and 10 p.m. newscasts opposite Mary Kate Hamilton. He joined the station in September 2006 as the main anchor and has served the station for over a decade.

Hendricks joined Odessa College after finishing his education at Odessa High School. He later transferred to North Texas State University, where he completed his undergraduate studies.

He received the Associated Press Best Anchor Award in 2008, 2009, 2010, and 2012. Previously, he worked as an anchor and reporter for the NBC Affiliate in Midland for 13 years. While in Midland, he also served the NBC Affiliate as the sports director for seven and a half years.

Hendricks has gained recognition for his devotion to the community, including co-hosting the Permian Basin Rehab Center Telethon and sitting on the board of Senior Link Midland. Additionally, he works as a Community Advisor for the Midland Junior League. He previously worked as the president of the National Kidney Foundation Serving West Texas board. Additionally, he sat on the Golf Committee Co-Chair.

Besides his news work, Hendricks has been very active with Special Olympics. He won the State Special Olympics Media Award in 1993 and 1996. In 2003, Special Olympics granted him the Outstanding Service from a Community Leader Award. In 2007, he was voted president of the Advisory Council for Texas Special Olympics. The Heritage of Odessa Foundation gave him the Community Statesman Award. Last but not least, he received the Texas State Teachers Association “School Bell Award.”
