Sekulow hosts a radio and television talk show. He is also a frequent guest commentator on the Christian Broadcasting Network and the Fox News Channel. A self-described Messianic Jew, he built a legal and media business over a thirty-year period by representing conservative, religious, and pro-life groups.

Jay is on President Donald Trump’s personal legal team, which is advising the president in connection with the conspiracy investigation, by a team led by former FBI Director Robert Mueller and by various Congressional committees, into links between Trump associates and Russian officials. He also serves as lead outside counsel for the President during the impeachment of Donald Trump.

Jay Sekulow Education

Sekulow attended Lakeside High School, in Atlanta. He then earned a B.A. in 1977 and a J.D. from Mercer University in 1980. Jay Sekulow Career

After graduating from law school, Jay worked at the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) as a prosecutor with the tax litigation division for “about 18 months.” In 1982, Jay opened a law firm in Atlanta, Georgia, with former Mercer classmate Stuart Roth which soon evolved into a business buying, renovating, and selling historic properties as a tax shelter for wealthy investors.

When IRS regulations changed in the mid-eighties, the law firm and the real estate business collapsed. In 1987, Sekulow and his partners filed for bankruptcy protection and were sued by investors for fraud and securities violations. In the same year, Sekulow became general counsel for Jews for Jesus.

Counsel to President Trump

Jay Sekulow served as lead outside counsel to President Donald Trump during the Mueller investigation and the president’s impeachment and trial. As explained in the trial memorandum, he co-authored, a central argument of Trump’s legal team is that the articles of impeachment did not charge the president with a crime and that abuse of power is not in itself an impeachable offense.

During statements in the Senate chamber regarding trial procedures, he asserted that President Trump was denied the right to cross-examine witnesses, examine the evidence, or have an attorney present during Judiciary Committee proceedings. The president cited Executive Privilege throughout the inquiry as a constitutional and judicially accepted practice. Evidence suggests that the president supported Ukraine and did not predicate aid on any investigation.

The larger question is, is a person who is vying for president, immune to diplomatic discussions regarding investigations into improper conduct by a sitting president who is constitutionally obligated to be the chief enforcer of the law? Jay asserted that the Mueller Report did not conclude that Trump engaged in obstruction of justice. In 2020, January, Sekulow was named as part of the council team that will represent Donald Trump in the impeachment case in the Senate
