Jeff Speegle is an American journalist working for WBMA as the sports director. In this role, he works as the weeknight sports anchor at ABC 33/40. He joined the station in 1996 when the station signed on the air, serving the station for over 2 decades.

Speegle joined Jacksonville State University after finishing his studies at Good Hope High School in 1979. He was initially an Accounting major but later switched to Broadcasting. He transferred to the University of Alabama, where he received his Bachelor’s degree in Broadcasting and Film Communications emphasizing News and Public Affairs. While in college, he served WACT, the university radio station for four years, first as disc jockey before moving over to news and then sports.

He later worked with Shelton in the sports department at The Times under the recommendation of his friend, Dennis James.
After working at the local newspaper, Speegle transitioned into radio broadcasting, where he honed his skills at WKUL 92.1 for about a year. During his time there, he met Ron Moseley, who taught him how to succeed in the radio business.
After graduating from college, Speegle worked at Tuscaloosa’s WCFT for multiple years. He then worked in Knoxville, Tennessee, from 1989 to 1991. Next, he took a job at WAAY in Huntsville, where he worked until 1996, when he moved to Birmingham to join 33/40.
Speegle has a passion for golf and basketball. His favorite sporting events include the Masters and the NCAA Basketball Tournament. He enjoys his job since he has the opportunity to meet new people, find interesting stories, and share those stories with his viewers.
