Jeremy Nelson Biography

Jeremy Nelson is an American meteorologist working for WJCL as the chief meteorologist for the StormTracker 22 Weather Team since joining the station in January 2017. Before working for WJCL, he worked as a morning meteorologist at WISN, the ABC affiliate in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Nelson joined the University of Wisconsin–Madison after completing his high school education. He later graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Meteorology.

Nelson works for WJCL as the chief meteorologist for the StormTracker 22 Weather Team. He has forecasted and broadcast weather for more than 20 years. He is proud to guide the region’s Certified Most Accurate weather team.

During his time at the station, Nelson broadcast many big weather stories, including Tropical Storm Irma, Hurricane Matthew, Hurricane Idalia, and multiple tornado outbreaks. He has also broadcast Tropical Storm Debby during an active 2024 hurricane season. His coverage of Hurricane Idalia won him a Southeast Emmy Award. The Georgia Association of Broadcasters granted him GABBY awards for Best Severe Weather Coverage and Best Program for the WJCL Hurricane Special.

Nelson enjoys long-range weather forecasting and uses forecast methods that are only available locally on WJCL 22 to produce comprehensive forecasts weeks or even months in advance. Every March 1st, he releases the WJCL 22 long-range forecast for the upcoming hurricane season.

He enjoys sharing his passion for and knowledge about the weather. He always connects with viewers through social media and on the WJCL weather blog. He serves as a member of the American Meteorological Society and was on the organization’s Broadcast Board for 3 years.

Nelson has obtained the Certified Broadcast Meteorologist Seal of Approval and the AMS Broadcast Seal. Before working for WJCL, he worked at WISN, the ABC affiliate in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Also, he worked in Kansas City and Madison, Wisconsin.
