Joe Moore is an American professional actor, playwright, and journalist working for KHON as the principal news anchor. He joined the station in 1978. Previously, he served KGMB as a sports anchor under mentor and news director Bob Sevey.
Joe Moore Education
Moore attended the University of Maryland, College Park after completing his high school studies at Beavercreek High School. While in college, he majored in communication and history before enlisting in the United States Army. He served two tours of duty during the Vietnam War with the Army’s 25th Infantry Division in Cu Chi, Vietnam, and the American Forces Vietnam Network in Saigon. He studied at Aiea High School for three years.

Moore works for KHON as the principal news anchor. He joined the station in 1978. KHON extended his contract to serve as a lead news anchor for ten years in 2008. Previously, he served KGMB as a sports anchor under mentor and news director Bob Sevey. He served the station for 9 nine years before joining KHON.
Moore chose journalism since he was always interested in current events and history and had a talent for public speaking and being in front of the camera. He served in Vietnam as an Army broadcast journalist for 2 years before starting his civilian career in Hawaii in 1969 as a sportscaster. Later, he moved to the news anchor desk in 1980.
On the news anchor desk, he has updated and briefed viewers on memorable events as they developed including the explosion of the space shuttle Challenger, Hurricanes Iwa and Iniki, and the strived assassination of President Ronald Reagan. He served as a host of a weekly Mozart program on Hawaii Public Radio.

Moore has appeared in two independent motion pictures, Goodbye Paradise in 1991, and Moonglow in 2000. Further, he appeared in several episodes of TV series based in Hawaii such as Hawaii Five-O, Magnum P.I, Jake and the Fat Man, One West Waikiki, and Tour of Duty.
Aside from TV, Moore has appeared in live theatrical productions with his longtime friend, television host Pat Sajak. Pat and he appeared in The Odd Couple in 2001 and 2012 at the Connecticut Repertory Theatre, where Moore played Oscar Madison. Further, they starred in The Honeymooners in 2004, The Boys in Autumn in 2010 at the Hawaii Theatre, and Wrestling Ernest Hemingway in 2014 at the Hawaii Theatre.
Moore starred in and wrote Prophecy and Honor in 2007. In 2013, he appeared in “Heaven Forbid!” at the Hawaii Theatre. He played the role of James Wicker in Terrence McNally’s It’s Only a Play at the Hawaii Theatre. Moreover, he has appeared and written in The Best Show in America: Will Rogers on Politics, Dirty Laundry, Unlikely Lawman, A Conversation with Mozart, John Wayne: The Man Behind the Legend, The Heydrich Covenant, and Righteous Revenge.
