John Pierson Biography

John Pierson is an American journalist working for WTNH as the sports director since he was promoted in January 2016. He joined the station in the fall of 2001 as a weekend sports anchor. This is his second stint at the station, as he initially joined the station in 1995 as a sports producer.

Pierson joined Southern Connecticut State University in 1989 after finishing his studies at Eli Whitney Technical High School. In 1994, he graduated with a Bachelor’s degree.

During his career, Pierson has been honored with multiple nominations for a New England Emmy Award. In 2002, he received the New England Emmy Award for reporting about the troubled youth of former UConn basketball player Caron Butler. In 2010, he won his second Emmy for his story about the UConn women’s hockey team. Before his initial stint at WTNH in 1995, he worked in production at ESPN in Bristol, Connecticut.
