Cynthia Johnson is an American singer, songwriter, actress, producer, and saxophone player who is best known as the lead singer and saxophonist of the band Lipps Inc. which is popularly for their hit single ‘Funkytown’. In 1976 she won the Miss Black Minnesota, USA pageant.

Cynthia began her career in music as the lead vocalist of the Minneapolis band Flyte Tyme for seven years. She is also an accomplished saxophone player and utilized her saxophone talents in Flyte Tyme. She also acted as the songwriter for many songs. After graduating from the University of Minnesota, Morris in 1978 she played with the band for a brief time before it evolved into ‘The Time’.
