Jonathan Elias is an American award-winning journalist working for WJLA and ABC7 serving as an anchor. He previously worked for WBZ as the lead reporter and main anchor.

Elias has managed to report and anchor different stories that hit the headlines. He anchors our 4, 6, and 11 p.m. on ABC7 News, as well as our 10 p.m. on WJLA 24/7. He is always looking for stories about our men and women who are serving or have served in the military and heads up the 7Salutes beat. Elias has also worked for other stations prior to joining ABC7/WJLA-TV. For instance, he previously worked for WBZ in Boston where he served as a lead reporter and a primary anchor.
Elias was the only reporter to be on the ground and finishing line during the Boston Marathon bombings. Due to this coverage, he was honored with a National Emmy Award, the highest journalism award in the business, a Peabody, and a DuPont. He managed to win an Emmy Award for being the best writer, and anchor, and for four years in a row the best general assignment reporter. He managed to enclose blizzards, hurricanes, and parades for the Bruins, Red Sox, Celtics, and Patriots.
Elias also used to work for KNXV in Phoenix where he served as the main anchor prior t moving to Boston. He has also traveled all across the country enclosing major stories including Hurricane Rita, the Washington D.C. sniper case, and Hurricane Katrina. Due to his investigative work, he managed to unmask a gaping hole in the T.S.A. screening process earned him a national Peabody Award. He also started a group that worked to recognize and thank returning Purple Heart Veterans called the Welcome Home Project.
Elias also spent some time working for KCBS in Los Angeles and WCCO in Minneapolis where he served as a primary anchor. He also worked in Birmingham and Joplin where he served as a reporter. Some of the famous stories that he has reported include the Oklahoma City bombing, the Oakland Hills fire, the L.A. Riots, and the crash of the TWA 800. He has nonetheless enclosed politics, earthquakes, floods, and hurricanes.
Elias had also spent some time working as an Honorary Commander at Hanscom Air Force Base for three years and served as an instructor at the U.S. Army War College for almost ten years. Elias graduated from California State University at Northridge as a history major.
