Josh Nichols Biography
Josh Nichols is an American meteorologist working for WKBW as a weekend meteorologist and primary fill-in for the Chief Meteorologist, broadcasting on all platforms with local weather forecasts for Western New York. Before joining the station in June 2022, he worked at WBZ, New England’s first TV station, in Boston.
Josh Nichols Education
Nichols joined Lyndon State College in Vermont in 1996 after finishing his studies at Oliver Ames High School in North Easton. In 2000, he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Meteorology and an Associate of Science degree in Communications. While in college, he served News Center 2, Lyndon’s very own local newscast serving the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont.

Nichols caught the “weather bug” very early in life. He watched a tree fall and hit their patio just a few feet from where he was indoors as Hurricane Gloria passed through his hometown of Easton in 1985. Since then, he committed himself to investigating and learn as much as he could about the mechanisms of the atmosphere.
When he was 12 years old, Nichols received a weather radio as his birthday gift. He would sit near the radio every day, listening to the forecasts. He also watched the local TV meteorologists on the evening newscast and compared the weather outside his house to the reports on the air. Thinking that one of those TV stations needed a weather watcher from his hometown, he used to call TV stations in Boston to see if he could help them out by relaying weather reports. In this capacity, he relayed reports every day, ran a weather station at his high school, and met and talked with the very TV meteorologists who encouraged his interests.
Nichols first experienced broadcasting in high school, where he delivered the weather report every morning via the intercom. He wrote a weekly article throughout high school and college for his hometown newspaper called “The Weather Watcher.” In the summer, he observed the weather and studied the skies at Blue Hill Observatory.
2000 to present
Two months after graduating from college, Nichols moved to Rochester in 2000 for his first TV job. He worked as a weekend and fill-in meteorologist at WHEC. In 2002, he was chosen to teach a weather and climate course at Monroe Community College. He worked there for 8 years, maintaining a curriculum and teaching several sections of the course every semester. To this day, some of the students he taught still stop him on the street to thank him for that class.
Nichols was the first TV Rochester meteorologist to earn the Certified Broadcast Meteorologist Seal, the highest seal of approval for meteorologists, through the American Meteorological Society in 2007. In May 2016, he joined WROC News 8 in Rochester, New York, as a morning and noon meteorologist for five years. He then briefly worked in Boston at WBZ, New England’s first TV station, before moving to WKBW. He is happy to be a part of Buffalo’s BEST weather team.

It is also not known if Nichols has any siblings.
