Fletcher worked as a cassette duplicating machine operator for Sounds Good in Theale and amused his coworkers with his characterizations. Fletcher began watching Phillip Schofield in the BBC1 broom cupboard with Gordon the Gopher while in his final year of drama at the Guildford School of Acting, and decided that a career in children’s television was for him. He then met Phillip Schofield, who advised him to create a showreel to show to TV executives.

After sketching out various comedic characters, he put together a showreel called Justin Time, which featured two different characters: Anna Conda, a myopic reptile-house warden, and Arthur Sleep, a regional newsreader who struggles to stay awake and can sleep anywhere. Both of these characters would later appear on his CBeebies show Gigglebiz. After being approached by a number of broadcasters and production companies, his first TV show after graduation was Fun Song Factory for GMTV, on which he collaborated with Dave Benson Phillips.

He was a part of the Tikkabilla show, which spawned Higgledy House, a slapstick comedy for children starring Sarah-Jane Honeywell, which led to the very popular Mr. Tumble. Fletcher has also voiced Doodles and Jake in Tweenies, Miguel in Finley the Fire Engine, Sleeping Bear and Growling Tiger in CBeebies’ Boo!, and other characters in Todd World, Shaun the Sheep, and Timmy Time. He joined CBeebies as a presenter in 2006 but left in 2007.

Fletcher created Something Special through his own production company, which he presents while signing in Makaton, a type of sign language. His CBBC voice work includes Harold from Thomas the Tank Engine, which he has performed on BBC Radio 4, an arena tour, and a pantomime. Fletcher works as a relief continuity presenter for CBeebies’ presentation links and was a regular on the CBeebies radio station on BBC Radio 7 until it was moved to BBC Radio 4 Extra in 2011.

Fletcher also appears in the award-winning Bee Bright series of educational DVDs as himself and a variety of animated characters. He also appears on occasion in a show called The Hollies School. CBeebies aired three different pilots created by Fletcher in November 2008, with the possibility of one of them becoming a full-time series.
