Gaskins attended St.Thomas Aquinas High School in 2006 and graduated with a diploma in 2010. She then enrolled at Florida University where she attained a Bachelor’s degree in Telecommunication in 2014. Before joining KLEW-TV in May 2022, she worked as a news reporter and anchor at WAVY-TV 10 in Norfolk, Virginia. While there, she covered major breaking news including military, hurricanes, elections, and court cases. Kayla also reported the 20th anniversary of 9/11 which earned her an Emmy Award in 2022. She served the station for four years and two months from April 2018 to May 2022.
Kayla previously worked for WJHG-TV in Panama City Beach where she served as a multimedia journalist. She spends two years and two months working for the station from March 2016 to April 2018. For her coverage of Hurricane Irma, she was awarded the Associated Press award for her reporting work in 2016. Earlier, Gaskins worked as an executive assistant at Fox News Channel from April 2015 to March 2016.
Prior to joining Fox News, Kayla served as a production assistant at Fox Business Network in New York, New York City. She also hosted various shows such as “Kennedy” which was formerly known as “The Independents”. Before joining Fox Business Network, Gaskins worked for Fox News Channel as a college intern from June 2014 to Augst 2014. Previously, she served as a news intern at WCJB TV20 from January 2014 to May 2014.
Gaskins began her broadcasting career as a news reporter at WUFT in Gainesville, Florida. While there, she was in charge of various roles such as writing, shooting, and producing day-turn packages. Apart from working as a journalist, Kayla served as a congressional intern at the US Congress in Doral, Florida. During her time there, she gathered and organized information and communicated with constituents on issues such as veteran affairs.
