Kent Boughton is an American journalist currently working as the Chief Forecaster and Outdoor Editor at Nebraska Television Network. He joined the station in August 1999.
Kent Boughton Career
Kent began his broadcasting career as a disc jockey for KRGI AM in Grand Island in June 1972. After graduating from Brown College in Minneapolis, he began his television career as the Lead Forecaster and Sports Director for KXON-TV in Mitchell, South Dakota, which went on the air for the first time on May 9, 1977, anchoring both weather and sports. Prior to returning home to Nebraska as the Weather Director/Outdoor Editor for KHAS-TV Channel 5 Hastings, he worked as a Weather and Sports Anchor at KIFI-TV 8 in Idaho Falls, Idaho.
Kent was a certified LUTCF insurance agent for Primark Inc. and a Rural Mail Carrier in Grand Island before leaving broadcasting to see his children grow up. He returned to television in 1999 as the Chief Forecaster/Outdoor Editor for NTV/KFXL FOX Nebraska. Kent is an avid outdoorsman, Hunter Education Instructor, 24 year National Wild Turkey Federation Nebraska State Board Member, and 2 term President who has received numerous prestigious awards including Field & Stream Magazine’s Hero’s Of Conservation, Pheasants Forever & Ducks Unlimited Conservationist of the Year, and Safari Club International Educator of the Year, to name a few.
Despite a near-fatal car accident in 2009, Kent continues to be active by announcing a variety of events such as the Harvest of Harmony Stadium Band Competition, conservation banquets, and public speaking. He is a past Grand Marshall for Harvest of Harmony.
