Kyle Hamm is an American First Alert storm chaser, Chief Photographer, and News Operations manager working at KOCO 5 News. Hamm joined the KOCO 5 team in 1981.

Hamm is currently working at KOCO 5 News where he serves as a First Alert storm chaser, Chief Photographer, and News Operations manager. He pilots First Alert Storm Command with Field Meteorologist Michael Armstrong when severe weather threatens Oklahoma.

Oklahoma native Hamm grew up with an interest in Oklahoma weather. Since the early 90’s, he has been a member of the First Alert Storm team. In addition, Hamm has reported many weather events as well as Hurricane Andrew in 1992 in both Miami and Louisiana. He’s won various awards over the years and was nominated for an Emmy for KOCO’s reports of the Laverne tornado in the early 90’s.

From chasing weather to leading our teams from the weather center, Hamm has had a hand in KOCO’s weather reports for over 30 years. Hamm is a proud graduate of Phillips University in Enid, Oklahoma with a Bachelor of Science degree in communications. After graduation, Hamm went on and started his career in KOCO in 1981.

Traveling to Houston with Chief Meteorologist Damon Lane and Field Meteorologist Michael Armstrong in First Alert Storm Command to report Hurricane Harvey in 2017 is one of his memorable events. It was a humiliating experience talking with people who had lost everything and recording their stories. It gave him a renewed realization of nature’s awesome power.
