Laurie Passman Biography

Laurie Passman is an American Emmy award-winning Vice President and News Director at CBS 11 a role she took up in August 2018. She joined the CBS 11 news team in August 2015 as the station’s Assistant News Director.

Laurie Passman Education

In 1995, she joined The University of New Mexico where she graduated with a bachelor’s degree from its School of Communication and Journalism in 1998. Later in 2008, she joined the University of Phoenix where she studied Business Administration for a period of one year.

Laurie Passman Career

Passman is currently working at CBS 11 where she serves as the Vice President and News Director. She has worked in the news department for more than twenty years, and during this time, she has covered major news events. Some of the events she has covered include; the shooting of US Rep. Gabby Giffords, Arizona’s devastating Yarnell Hill Fire, and the deadly ambush shooting of Dallas and DART Police Officers. In addition, she manages the internship program at CBS 11 and is passionate about mentoring the next generation of journalists.

Furthermore, she also serves as a guest lecturer for journalism classes. Before she joined the KTVT team, she worked at KTVK-TV in Phoenix where she was the manager of 3OYS, the Emmy award-winning consumer news unit. Additionally, she served as the Executive Producer of Good Morning Arizona and expanded the newscast to 5 ½ hours. Passman has also worked at KOB-TV in Albuquerque where she served as a News Director.

While she worked at KOB-TV, she led the team in earning the New Mexico Broadcasters Association Excellence in Broadcasting award. In addition, while she worked at KOB, she did launch an Emmy award-winning investigative and consumer news unit. During her downtime, she enjoys live music and playing the drum and is passionate about food and shoes.
