Leo Hirsbrunner Biography
Leo Hirsbrunner is an American meteorologist working for WDBJ as a meteorologist for WDBJ7 Mornin’ and WDBJ7 at Noon. He joined the station in August 2000 as a weekend meteorologist. Previously, he served WBOY in Clarksburg, West Virginia as the chief meteorologist.

Hirsbrunner joined Northern Vermont University at Lyndon when he finished his high school education. In 1997, he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Meteorology and a minor in Physics. While in college, he worked as an intern at WPRI in Providence, Rhode Island.

Hirsbrunner works for WDBJ as a meteorologist for WDBJ7 Mornin’ and WDBJ7 at Noon. After graduating college, he secured his first TV job in Burlington, Vermont at WVNY where he worked as a fill-in meteorologist. He then moved to Clarksburg, West Virginia where he worked for WBOY. There, he worked as the chief meteorologist for two and a half years before coming to WDBJ.
Hirsbrunner earned his forecasting skills during his career working from The New England Shore Line to the Mountains of West Virginia. He works as a member of the American Meteorological Society and holds its Certified Broadcast Meteorologist (CBM) designation.
Since he was a child, he dreamed of becoming a meteorologist. In 1978, he encountered the “Storm of the Century” when he was 5 years old. The blistering winds and blanketing snow piqued his passion for the weather. He passionately shares his passion with children today through his regular visits to multiple local schools.

The family resides in southwest Roanoke County. In his free, he enjoys playing and watching ice hockey.
