Lindsay McCoy Biography
Lindsay McCoy is an American journalist working for WFMJ as an anchor of 21 News at 5 p.m. on weeknights since August 2015. She joined the station in August 2012 as a multimedia journalist and fill-in anchor. She has served the station for more than a decade. Previously, she worked for the Rubber City Radio Group in Akron, Ohio as a morning news anchor on 1590 WAKR.

McCoy joined Kent State University’s School of Journalism and Mass Communication in 2004 when she finished her high school education at Stow-Munroe Falls High School. In 2008, she graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism. During college, she was involved with the RTNDA, TV2 News, Black Squirrel Radio, and Residence Services.

McCoy worked for AOL/’s Patch network in Ohio as a local editor. While she was still in college, WVIZ/PBS “NewsOhio” employed her as the co-host of its weekly program. She is synonymous with broadcasting local, state, and national politics. In 2016, she and Ohio Governor John Kasich traveled across the country during the Presidential primary race.
McCoy broadcasted the Republican National Convention in Cleveland in 2016 and President Trump’s inauguration. During her time in Akron, she covered Akron Mayor Don Plusquellic’s call-back election, the investigation into the killing of Jessie Marie Davis, the Donna Moonda case, and the 2008 and 2012 presidential elections.
McCoy has a passion for giving back to the Mahoning Valley. For a long time, she has worked as a member of the Warren Junior Women’s League. Additionally, she has worked as a volunteer with United Way of Trumbull County. While there, she read to children face to face and virtually throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. She loves reading to students every year.
McCoy works as emcee of the yearly Miss Cortland Queen contest. She has also supported the Silver Linings Cancer Fund, Yellow Brick Place, and Junior Achievement of the Mahoning Valley. In 2020, the Ohio Associated Press Media Editors gave her the Best Anchor award. The Ohio AP named her Best Reporter in 2010. She also won the 2008 RTDNA Rob Sunde Fellowship. She works on the professional advisory board of the Kent State University Student Media.
