For her excellent work, she has been honored with numerous awards such as the 2013 George Foster Peabody Award, Columbia DuPont Award, and Emmy Award in 2016 and 2014.

She also received both the Edward R. Murrow Award and Emmy Awards for Best News Reporter. Other organizations include the Girls Clubs of Dorchester, Project 351, Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital, and the Boys and Girls Clubs of Dorchester. On top of this, Hughes also helped raise funds in 2002 and 2011 where she participated in the annual Pan-Mass Challenge and Boston Marathon.
