She was cast as Jody Travis, an aspiring dancer, in the ABC soap opera The Edge of Night when she was 15, and she appeared in the series from 1980 to 1983. Loughlin starred in over a dozen feature films and television guest appearances between 1983 and 1988.

Loughlin starred as Rebecca Donaldson, Danny Tanner’s co-host, and later, Jesse Katsopolis’ wife, on the ABC sitcom Full House from 1988 to 1995. She was originally scheduled for a six-episode arc, but after proving to be a famous character on the show, she was promoted to a regular.
