Lucy Bustamante is an American journalist of Cuban descent working for NBC10 Philadelphia as a morning news anchor for NBC10 and a breaking news anchor for Telemundo62. Before NBC10, she worked in Norfolk, Virginia for WVEC as a weekday morning and noon anchor.

Bustamante attended Loyola University after completing her high school education at Cabrini High School in New Orleans. When she finished he studies, she became a graduate and attained a Bachelor’s degree in Communications.

Bustamante works for NBC10 Philadelphia as a morning news anchor for NBC10 and a breaking news anchor for Telemundo62. The New Orleans native is fluent in Spanish and learned to translate between Spanish and English as a first-generation American.

While in high school, she served as a volunteer at Cabrini Convent for retired nuns in Radnor Township, Delaware County. Before its closure, the convent was a nursing home for the Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart. She served as the commencement speaker for Cabrini University in May 2023. Along with partners at NBC News, she treated the “American Vets” reporting series.

She and other journalists across the nation broadcast matters that affect veterans in the states and abroad. In November 2022, she co-produced and co-hosted an NBCNewsNow Veterans Day special, American Vets: Beyond the Battlefield. The special spotlighted the problems veterans with PTSD face.

Before NBC10, she worked in Norfolk, Virginia for WVEC as a weekday morning and noon anchor. While in Norfolk, she also worked for La Selecta 103.3 at WVXX-FM as a daily weekday morning news anchor. Before that, she worked in New Orleans at WWL as an evening anchor. For three solid months, she and her workmates broadcasted the ruin after Hurricane Katrina. 

A 4x Emmy award winner, she also won a Telly award. For her work anchoring the June 2019 explosion of the Philadelphia Energy Solutions plant in South Philly, she received honors. Further, she has attained various Associated Press awards for best anchor and three regional Edward R. Murrow awards.

In 2011, she received an Edward R. Murrow award for writing a documentary that explains the Affordable Care Act in Virginia. For breaking news, she received another one in 2004 in New Orleans and obtained a Peabody Award for broadcasting Hurricane Katrina in 2005. Prior to that, she went to Cuba where she broadcasted the initial gubernatorial trade trip between Louisiana and Havana under President Bush. Also, she served as a co-host of LIVE with Regis and Kelly with the late Regis Philbin and Kelly Ripa. 

With a passion for serving the Hispanic/Latinx community and military families, she served as the president and founded the Philadelphia Chapter of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists. Also, she’s involved with the Naval Officers Spouses Association and the NBC Universal Veterans Network.
