Marcella Lee is an American journalist who serves as a general assignment reporter and anchor for KFMB-TV in San Diego, California. She also worked as a general assignment reporter at KCNC-TV in Denver, Colorado.

Marcella has transitioned to a Primary Anchor job, giving the news Monday through Friday for News 8 at 10 pm on the CW San Diego, after more than a decade of anchoring the Weekend Newscasts on CBS News 8. She is thrilled to be a part of the CBS8-CW duopoly in San Diego at KFMB Stations, and she will continue to report for both affiliates.
Marcella spotlights youngsters in San Diego County who are waiting for a permanent home in her weekly Adopt 8 segments. “We showcase many older youngsters who are harder to place,” Marcella explains, “kids as young as 12 and as old as 16.” She claims that someone once said to her, “They’re almost out of the system,” she said, “but a child’s need for a mother or father does not end at the age of eighteen.”
Through college, young adulthood, and beyond, these youngsters require love and supervision.” The most rewarding part of Marcella’s job, she says, is learning that a kid has found a Forever Family. “She says,” she says “Adoption changes the lives of children for the rest of their lives. It’s an honor to play a little part in bringing children and parents together through our Adopt 8 tales.”
Marcella’s broadcasting career was nearly overshadowed by her business ambitions. She is a Detroit native who earned her bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Michigan Business School in Ann Arbor. Lee opted to take a risk and follow her interest in journalism, earning $5 an hour as a videographer/reporter at WLNS-TV in Lansing, MI, against her better financial judgment. She then went to WBNS-TV in Columbus, Ohio, where she won her first Emmy at the tender age of 23.
Marcella made the move to KCNC-TV in Denver, Colorado, where she worked as a general assignment reporter. Lee was quickly drawn back to Detroit and WDIV-TV by the lure of her hometown. Marcella couldn’t resist the sun and ocean when San Diego called six years later. Lee has won 13 Emmy Awards, including eight while at CBS News 8, for her anchoring and reporting on the October 2007 and May 2015 wildfires, among other stories.
Marcella describes flying to Jordan for a cultural exchange assignment after the September 11th attacks as one of her most memorable TV news experiences. “It was a great opportunity not just to learn about Middle Eastern culture, but also to educate and enlighten people by helping to bridge the cultural divide during such a turbulent and sensitive moment,” she says.
Lee is involved with several San Diego groups, including ASIA: The Journal of Culture & Commerce and the Union of Pan Asian Communities (UPAC). She also gives back to the community by mentoring high school and college students. Marcella and her husband Tony spend their time with their twins enjoying parks, beaches, and the gorgeous environment of San Diego when they are not at work or contributing to the community.
