Marcy Cuevas is an American journalist working for Cape Fear Community College as a public information officer since July 2026. Previously, she spent over 2 decades at WWAY in Wilmington, North Carolina.

Cuevas joined East Carolina University in 1994 after finishing her high school education. In 1999, she graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Communications and Media Studies. While in college, she served WZMB, the college radio station. She also interned in the sports department at WNCT.

Cuevas works for Cape Fear Community College as a public information officer. Previously, she spent over 2 decades at WWAY in Wilmington, North Carolina. She joined WWAY in September 1999, days before Hurricane Floyd made landfall in Southeastern NC.
In August 2020, Cuevas was named WWAY’s news director after holding nearly every job in the newsroom. She briefly worked as an editor before becoming a reporter. In 2004, she started anchoring the noon newscasts before moving to mornings. She anchored Good Morning Carolina from 2006 to 2012.
In 2012, Cuevas took a brief hiatus from the news to look after her kids. After a year, she realized she missed being a journalist and returned to WWAY part-time as a producer in the evenings. After three years, she returned to work full-time and moved into management. She spent 4 years as the managing editor before being promoted to WWAY’s news director.
During her time on the air, Cuevas has broadcast many stories, including tropical storms, the huge effort to move Mason Inlet, and hurricanes. She also covered the killing of a Boiling Spring Lakes police officer and the following lawsuit of his killer.
Cuevas was working during 9/11 and was assigned to Camp Lejeune, where she filed reports on the security procedures that went into effect on the base that day. She started her career while still in college.
