Maria Guerrero Biography

Maria Guerrero is an American reporter and anchor working for NBC5 News. She joined the station in February 2017 as a general assignment reporter.

After graduating from high school and earning her High School Diploma, she had to further her education. She joined Louisiana State University to pursue her course. After completing her studies there, she obtained her bachelor’s degree in Mass Communication with a concentration in Journalism and a double minor in Spanish and International Studies with a concentration in Latin America.

Guerrero joined NBC5 as a general assignment reporter. She developed her love and passion for journalism at a young age. When she was in 6th grade, she had a field trip to her local news station: KTRE-TV. That time she knew she wanted to be a journalist after observing the process of asking tough questions and getting answers “sold” her on journalism and seeing the amount of work that went on behind the scenes to bring the news of the day to the public.

Throughout her high school and college time, she worked as a production assistant at local news stations after reporting for Hudson Middle and High School journalism programs. From working as a production assistant while still in college, she worked her way up and landed another job at WAFB-TV in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. While there, she served as an on-air general assignment reporter. She later moved to Madison, Wisconsin where she got an opportunity to work for WISC-TV.

During her working time there, she served the station as a general assignment reporter and weekend anchor. She also covered major stories including Super Bowl XLV at Cowboys Stadium. Guerrero even interviewed the parents of Packers’ QB, Aaron Rodgers, at the Stockyards Station when the cattle drive was canceled because of the icy conditions. After working at WISC-TV for some time, she headed to Albuquerque, New Mexico to work for KOB-TV.

During her working time there, she served the station as a general assignment reporter and weekend morning anchor. Her love for green chiles was born there. She also worked for KIRO-TV in Seattle, Washington as a general-assignment reporter before she was promoted to the weekend morning anchor. Guerrero is a passionate journalist.
