Matthew McConaughey is an American actor who attained his breakthrough when he played a supporting role in the comedy, Dazed and Confused. In the 2000s, he attained fame for appearing in romantic comedies like The Wedding Planner, How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, Failure to Launch, Fool’s Gold, and Ghosts of Girlfriends Past.

McConaughey relocated to Longview in 1980 so that’s could enroll at Longview High School. In 1988, he moved to Australia thinking that he could study in Sydney as a Rotary Youth Exchange student but he instead studied at Gorokan High School in Warnervale, New South Wales for a year. Further, he worked as an attorney and as a bank teller for ANZ.

McConaughey joined the University of Texas at Austin in the fall of 1989 where he was involved with the Delta Tau Delta fraternity. In the spring of 1993, he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Radio-Television-Film.

At first, he wanted to study at Southern Methodist University until one of his brothers informed him that the school fees would be a burden on his family. After graduating college, he wanted to attend law school but he didn’t since he lacked any interest in being a lawyer.

In the 2000s, he attained fame for appearing in romantic comedies like The Wedding Planner, How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, Failure to Launch, Fool’s Gold, and Ghosts of Girlfriends Past. His roles in the films earned him the title of a sex symbol.

He took a hiatus for two years before he started appearing in more dramatic roles in 2011 like The Lincoln Lawyer. In 2012, he received praise for appearing in Magic Mike and Mud. In 2013, he portrayed a cowboy diagnosed with AIDS, Ron Woodroof, in Dallas Buyers Club. For the role, he lost 47 pounds. After his success in Dallas Buyers Club, he starred in The Wolf of Wall Street and in SN 1 of HBO’s True Detective. For his performance in True Detective, he received a nomination for the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series. Moreover, he appeared in Interstellar, and The Gentlemen and provided voice-over in Kubo and the Two Strings, Sing, and Sing 2.

2015 to present;

After starring in The Sea of Trees in 2015, McConaughey appeared in two films, Free State of Jones and Gold, in 2016. Also, he voiced voiced leading characters in the animation, Kubo and the Two Strings and Sing. In 2016, McConaughey worked as a creative director and celebrity spokesman for Wild Turkey’s latest campaign, to bring in more women and more international customers.

In 2017, McConaughey played the role of Walter Padick in The Dark Tower. The following year, he appeared in the role of Richard Wershe Sr. in the film, White Boy Rick. Next, he starred in  Serenity, The Beach Bum, and The Gentlemen. In 2020, he published a memoir named Greenlights. On February 6, 2023, he was announced to voice Elvis Presley on Netflix’s animation, Agent Elvis. After Kevin Costner left Yellowstone, an announcement was made that McConaughey would star in a series related to Yellowstone in a new titular role.
