Melissa Gaona is an American journalist working for WDBJ as a co-anchor of WDBJ7’s 7@four and 5 p.m. newscasts on weekday afternoons. In addition, she anchors Hometown Veterans: Honoring our Heroes on the last Thursday of each month on 7@four. Before those roles, she served the station as a field reporter for 2 years. She joined the station in June 2011 after working at WCYB/WEMT/CW4 as a reporter for a year.

After graduating college, Gaona worked for a newspaper in East Texas as a sports reporter. A couple of years later, she went to the Commonwealth of Virginia where she secured her first TV news job at WCYB in Bristol. Sicne coming to the Commonwealth, she fell in love with the mountains and met her husband.
