Mercedes Stephenson is a Canadian political journalist, military analyst, and host who isworking at Global News. She serves as Ottawa Bureau Chief and host of The West Block which is the network’s flagship national political affairs program airing on Sunday mornings at the station.  In addition, she joined the Global News team in June 2018.

She graduated with a master’s degree in Strategic Studies from the University of Calgary in 2015. In addition, her investigative reporting called attention to the mistreatment and neglect of Canadian veterans, and her reporting on how the military handles sexual misconduct led to major policy changes in the Canadian Armed Forces.

In June 2011, she joined CTV National News where she served as the host of Power Play which aired on Fridays, and reported for Secret Warriors on the Canadian Special Operations Regiment, as well as CTV National News. She left the CTV National News in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada in June 2018. During her leisure time, she enjoys traveling, meeting new people, and experiencing new places.
