Baden’s former lawyer, Robert Tanenbaum, defended his autopsy methods in 1979, while also admitting his lack of cooperation with the New York establishment. In a subsequent wrongful termination suit, Baden was awarded $100,000. Baden was the chairman of the Forensic Pathology Panel of the House Select Committee on Assassinations, which investigated the assassination of John F. Kennedy.

Following that, Baden was hired as a deputy medical examiner for Suffolk County, but he was fired for allegedly making inappropriate remarks about how to commit the perfect murder. An Oui Magazine article quoted him as describing how to get away with “high-tech murder,” but Baden strongly denied it.

The decision to fire him has reversed shortly after because the circumstances surrounding his alleged comments were unclear, but Baden chose to leave the position anyway.
