Mike Catalana Biography
Mike Catalana is an American journalist working for 13WHAM as the sports director since he was promoted in August 1989. Additionally, he is one of the creators of the Buffalo Plus YouTube channel. He joined the station in late 1987.

Catalana joined Ithaca College in 1981 after finishing his high school education. In 1985, he graduated with a Bachelor’s degree.

After graduating from college, he started his career in Binghamton, where he served WMGC-TV as sports director in 1986. In late 1987, he moved to Rochester as a weekend sports anchor and reporter for WOKR-TV (now 13WHAM). In August 1989, he was promoted to sports director.
Catalana was inducted into the New York State Broadcasters Hall of Fame in 2024. That year also marked his 37th year covering the Bills. During his career, he has broadcast almost all the big sporting events in the nation, including several Super Bowls, starting with the four trips made by the Buffalo Bills from January 1991 to January 1994
Besides his work at 13WHAM, Catalana served the Buffalo Bills Broadcast Network as the sideline reporter for 20 seasons. He also spent 8 years as the team’s postgame show host. Moreover, he was a game host and analyst with the Rochester Americans hockey team for a total of 11 seasons.
While working in Rochester, Catalana and his team have won several awards from the New York State Broadcasters Association for Best Sportscast. He has received multiple Rochester Press-Radio Club’s Media Excellence Awards. Over the years, he has given his time to the Ronald McDonald House the Golisano Children’s Hospital, and Daystar Kids.
