Gillaspia attended Southwest High School in 1978 where he had his initial education after which he joined the college in 1982 to further his education. He currently works as a 5 p.m. news co-anchor for KIII-TV NEWS in Corpus Christi, Texas, and he is very established in the area of the Coastal Bend. Since 2005, he has adopted KIII-TV as his work base, where he anchors and reports for CBS, NBC, and the recently acquired ABC affiliate stations.
Additionally, Gillaspia was at the news desk during Hurricane Harvey in August 2017, where he continued to broadcast non-stop during the disaster. Before joining KIII-TV channel, Gillaspia worked as a news anchor at NewsWest 9 from 2012 to 2013 then became a news anchor at KRIS Communications until he left the station in June 2020 and started working for KIII-TV channel in October 2020.
He also worked as a News Anchor at KZTV 10 (CBS) from the year 2007 to 2010. His morning and midday news anchoring also received recognition from the Associated Press. Apart from spending his time in the newsroom, Gillaspia also engages and interacts with the community. He often acts as master of ceremonies for different functions around the area, linking people and issues.
