Mitchel Coombs Biography
Mitchel Coombs is an American meteorologist working for NBC Montana as a weekday evening meteorologist since June 2023. He joined the station in August 2022 as a weekend meteorologist and multimedia journalist. Since August 2011, he has owned Tatsumaki Photography and is a freelance meteorologist.
Mitchel Coombs Education
Coombs joined Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas in August 2009 when he finished his education at Midway High School. In December 2014, he graduated with a Bachelor Of Science degree in Geological Sciences and Earth Sciences/Geosciences.
During college, he was a member of the Texas Tech Student Chapter of the American Meteorological Society, the Texas Tech Japan Earthquake and Tsunami Relief Team, the Texas Tech Club Tennis and Racquetball Teams, and the Texas Tech Club Pokemon Club. He also worked as a research assistant at Texas Tech University National Wind Institute.
Coombs helped to look after his family in Northern Utah before he rejoined Texas Tech University for his Master’s degree in July 2020. In May 2022, he graduated with a Master Of Arts degree in Strategic Communication and Innovation.
While pursuing his Master’s degree, he worked for WDHN in Dothan, Alabam as a broadcast meteorology and digital media intern. In this role, he developed everyday weather forecasts, produced weather segments, and delivered forecasts on the green screen. He also helped during severe weather in the studio and in the field. The experience was beneficial in his learning journey.
