Feldman came to Detroit in 1976 to serve WJBK FOX 2 as a reporter and anchor. While there, he anchored FOX 2 News at 5:30 p.m. for almost 2 decades as well as worked as a money editor. He worked on-air for almost 4 decades before retiring in May 2016. In his role as WJBK’s money editor, he produced and broadcasted FOX 2 JOB SHOP and hosted Murray’s Money Minute as well as a Money Monday beat that helps metro Detroiters with their money problems.
Before WJBK, he worked for WPRI in Providence as a news anchor and reporter, WNYS in Syracuse as a weekend anchor and reporter, WWBZ-AM in New Jersey as a newscaster and music announcer, and KYW Newsradio in Philadelphia as a writer and desk assistant. His broadcasting career started in 1964 when he worked for WCAM-AM in New Jersey as a production assistant.
During his career, he earned an invite to the White House for multiple events. For example, he among a select group of journalists and economic reporters received an invite to converse with President Reagan and cabinet members about the economic state of the country. In 1976, he met with President Ford and discussed various political matters with him. President Bush invited him to the White House so that he could award him for his reports on small businesses.
In early 1994, he interviewed President Clinton before the G-7 summit in Detroit. Also, he interviewed President Obama live on FOX 2 after a big administration shake-up at General Motors before the firm’s bankruptcy. Devoted to giving back to the community, he is actively involved with numerous charities.
Awards
Throughout his career, Feldman has received numerous awards and honors. In 2009, he received an Associated Press (AP) award for FOX 2 News at 6: Auto Crisis” and in 2006 a Broadcast Excellence Merit award for Money Makeover from the Michigan Association of Broadcasters. For his reporting of local business entrepreneurs, he was named Michigan Entrepreneur of the Year in 1992.
In 1989 and 1992, Feldman was named the Media Advocate of the Year by the U.S. Small Business Administration. He won the first-place United Press International (UPI) award and an Associated Press award for his individual reporting excellence in 1988. For broadcasting the stock market collapse, he received a first-place UPI Individual Achievement Award.
Feldman also received the American University Television Award from the Investment Company Institute for the best economic coverage of any TV station in the country during the 1987 stock market collapse. In 1997, he won an Emmy for his Deal of the Day series. Ann Arbor’s Cleary University granted him an honorary doctorate in 2003.
