NeNe Leakes is an American television personality, actress, presenter, author, and fashion designer best known for her appearance on the reality television series The Real Housewives of Atlanta and on the Fox comedy-drama series Glee. Before Leakes met the producers of The Real Housewives of Atlanta, she had appeared on TV shows such as The Parkers.

NeNe Leakes Career

Before Leakes met the producers of The Real Housewives of Atlanta, she had appeared on TV shows such as The Parkers. In 2003, she also played a minor role as a stripper in the film The Fighting Temptations, starring Cuba Gooding, Jr. and Beyoncé. However, none of her scenes are present in the final editing of the film, so she is not credited with her work on the production.

Leakes also switched to scripted television, playing Rocky Roads Secretary in the NBC comedy The New Normal. Ryan Murphy cast Leakes on his Glee series for the third season in a recurring role as a synchronized swim coach and Olympic bronze medalist Roz Washington

In 2011, Leakes competed in the eleventh installment of Donald Trump’s Celebrity Apprentice NBC series. In the tenth episode of Apprentice, after arguments with fellow cast member Star Jones, Leakes left the show. Leakes was unable to win any money for her chosen charity, My Sister’s House.

Leakes hosted Anderson Live, and The Talk, and appeared in Betty White’s Off Their Rockers and The Price Is Right. Apart from competing in Dancing with the Stars, Leakes played the Mistress of Sensuality in Las Vegas for Cirque du Soleil: Zumanity. She made her Broadway debut as Madame in Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella on November 25, 2014.

She played the role until the production was closed on 3 January 2015. In November 2015, Matron “Mama” Morton was played on Broadway in Chicago for four weeks. Leakes and her husband took part in the second MasterChef Celebrity Showdown on January 2, 2017. The pair faced the challenge of Trai Byers and Grace Gealey of Empire in the tag team and lost.

Dancing with the stars

On March 4, 2014, she was announced as one of the celebrities who would compete with the Stars in the 18th season of Dancing. She was paired with a professional dancer, Tony Dovolani. Leakes and Dovolani finished 7th in Week 7 of the competition on 28 April 2014.

The Real Housewives of Atlanta

In 2008, Leakes made her first appearance on The Real Housewives of Atlanta. After the first season, she co-wrote the book Never Make The Same Mistake Twice with Denene Millner. For the first seven seasons, Leakes was part of the cast. In June 2015, Leakes announced that she would not be returning to the Royal Housewives of Atlanta for the 8th season.

However, in season 8 of the Royal Housewives of Atlanta, Leakes played a supporting role, reportedly earning her full salary from the previous seven seasons. Leakes later returned to the show as a full-time housewife in the tenth season.

 In June 2018, NeNe revealed that Gregg had stage 3 colon cancer. However, in May 2019 she said that he was cancer-free. In June 2021, she said that the cancer recurred and that he was in the hospital recuperating after surgery. Unfortunately, he died on 1st September 2021 from colon cancer at the age of 66.
