He also covered the royal family for “Good Morning America” whenever he was in Britain.
Watt joined ABC’s London bureau in 1997 as a desk assistant and tape librarian. In 2000, he was promoted to a producer in 2000. In September of the following year, he went to northern Afghanistan shortly after the attacks of 9/11. As a producer, he broadcast the humanitarian crisis in Darfur, the 2004 parliamentary disatser in Iran, the school siege in Beslan, Russia, and the civil war in Liberia. His work in Darfur earned him an Emmy award.
Watt has thoroughly covered Afghanistan and Iraq, spending four months in Baghdad in the lead-up to the 2003 invasion. He embedded with the First Cavalry Division in Sadr City as a cameraman/producer during the handover of power in June 2004. Five months later, he was part of a two-man team embedded with a Marine infantry unit during the attack on Fallujah. Before joining ABC News, he was a reporter at The Southampton Press newspaper in New York.
