His professional career started when he worked for the ABC affiliate in Toledo, Ohio, WTVG. There, he worked as a weekend assignment editor and an assistant producer. In this role, he learned the ins and outs behind the camera while he was a college student.
After graduating college, Robertson joined WCJB in Gainesville as a one-man band reporter from its Ocala bureau. There, he broadcasted the northern part of central Florida. Multiple times, he has received Emmys for Anchoring “Best Newscast” and for “Specialty Reporting” taking viewers inside Marine Boot camp, at Parris Island Marine Base in South Carolina.
The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences acknowledged him with Emmy nominations for “Business” and “Spot News Reporting.” Also, he has received awards from the South Carolina Broadcasting Association and RTNDAC.
Robertson has landed numerous exclusive interviews. For instance, he went to the United Nations Headquarters for a national exclusive on an invite from previous U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley. He serves among the few to have a dual sit-down interview with previous President Barack and Michelle Obama.
In 2016, he was picked among two other Hearst Television reporters to broadcast the Summer Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. For a little over 3 weeks, he broadcasted the games, provided live reports at all hours of the day for nearly 30 TV stations around the nation, and interviewed athletes. Due to his successful broadcast, he received the chance to represent Hearst Television as a member of the 2018 Olympic team broadcasting the Winter Games in PyeongChang, South Korea.
Community Work and Volunteering
Robertson has been passionate about advancing care for people all over the state of South Carolina with Neurological Disorders, ever since his father was diagnosed with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease) in 2011. He collaborated with Prisma Health(then known as the Greenville Health System) to develop the nation’s initial Neurological Institute that aids patients with ALS, Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinson’s, and other neurological-related illnesses.
Robertson also assisted in the creation and organization of the Greenville Polo Classic, which raises awareness and money for patients and their families at GHS, Bon Secours St. Francis, and the SC ALS Association. He works as a fellow with the Riley Institute Diversity Leaders Initiative and is a member of the Hearst Diversity leadership team.
