Early Career and Fifth Harmony

Normani studied at private schools as a child before she started being homeschooled from 6th grade. Since she was 3, she competed in dance, gymnastics, and beauty pageants. She recorded her first song at the age of 13 and appeared in HBO’s Treme. She said that dancing was her first passion.

In 2012, Normani auditioned for SN 2 of The X Factor USA, performing Aretha Franklin’s Chain of Fools which won her all the judges’ approval. However, she departed from the show during the second round of boot camp.
