Pete Yanity Biography
Pete Yanity is an American journalist working for WSPA as the sports director and main anchor since joining the station in October 1990. He has served the station for more than 3 decades. Additionally, he appears on 7NEWS at 6, 7, 10, and 11 p.m. Previously, he worked for 7NEWS’ sister station, WBTW TV-13 in Florence, as the sports director from March 1987 to October 1990.

Yanity anchored and reported sports for over 35 years. This has been his hobby and passion all of his life. He has done broad TV play-by-play assignments for Clemson, the ACC, the Southern Conference, and other operations for games appearing on CBS Sports Network, the Nexstar Network, Fox Sports/Regional (now Bally Sports), and ESPN3 to list a few.
Yanity provided the play-by-play voice for the Clemson Tigers for football and men’s basketball from 2003 to 2014. He also hosted coaches’ TV shows for these sports. In 2017, he rejoined TV shows with a stint as a host and producer.
Yanity worked for TV Network as the sideline reporter on the Carolina Panthers preseason from 2001 to 2013. For more than a decade, he hosted for Wofford College’s football coach’s TV show. In 2002, he served as an Honorary Letterman inductee of the Spartanburg school’s Athletic Hall Of Fame.
Yanity also filed reports for the ACC Football Pregame program on Raycom Sports. Over the years, he has broadcasted occasions such as the World Series and Super Bowl, the Daytona 500, the Masters, big college sports, and high school sports. He has also produced many specials.
In 2012, the South Carolina Broadcasters Association honored him as a Master Broadcaster. Further, he has won other honors including the Associated Press Television/Best Sportscast Award and the South Carolina Sportscaster of the Year Award from the National Association of Sportswriters and Sportscasters.
The South Carolina Football Coaches Association granted him its yearly award for his coverage of school football in the state./ He also won the 1998 James “Slick” Moore Award for his involvement in the athletic community.
Previously, Yanity worked for 7NEWS’ sister station, WBTW TV-13 in Florence, as the sports director from March 1987 to October 1990. Before that role, he served the station as an assistant sports director and weekend sports anchor from August 1985 to March 1986. Between his tenures at WBTW, he served WBOY in Clarksburg as the sports director.
