Peter Albrecht is an American journalist working for WKRG as an anchor and reporter appearing on weekdays on News 5 at 5:00, News 5 at 6:00, and News 5 at 10:00. He rejoined the station in January 2013. His initial tenure at the station was in 1990 when he helped debut News 5 at 5:00 in 1996.

Albrecht attended Carleton College after completing his high school education. When he finished his studies, he became a graduate and attained a Bachelor’s degree in History. Further, he has a Master’s degree in Journalism from the prestigious Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University.

He has broadcasted the Gulf Coast to the News 5 team for just about 25 years. He has broadcasted nearly all aspects of life in Mobile and on the Gulf Coast. For instance, he broadcasted the Alabama State Legislature, Opal, Danny, Mobile City Hall, Hurricanes Erin, Georges, Ivan, and Katrina, and SEC and local sports.
From 2000 to 2007, he served the NBC affiliate in Mobile as a lead news anchor and managing editor. During the years, he has attained multiple awards from the Associated Press, the Press Club of Pensacola, the Mobile Press Club, the Alabama Medical Association, the U.S. Department of Defense, Mobile Bay Monthly, and Lagniappe.
His career started when he worked in La Crosse, Wisconsin at WKBT as a TV journalist. Also, he worked for WFTC in St. Paul/Minneapolis, Minnesota. Before joining WKRG in 2013, he worked for Mobile County as the Director of Marketing & Economic Development.
While there, he was involved in the triumphant endeavor to recruit Airbus and other industries to Mobile. Further, he has volunteered for a number of local charities. Recently, he served as one of the local leaders partaking in the American Cancer Society’s Real Men Wear Pink campaign.
An ardent sports fan, he loves to play baseball in Mobile’s men’s league. Also, he closely follows the Minnesota Vikings. Albrecht serves as a member of one of the oldest documented fantasy football leagues in the nation.
