While there, she launched a weekly segment called Community Heroes, spotlighting first responders, military personnel, and healthcare professionals. One of the most unforgettable stories was broadcasting a small plane crash involving Dale Earnhardt Jr. and his family.
Kassahun won the Tennessee Associated Press Award in 2019. The following year, she won a Community Service Award for her local contributions. During the pandemic, she was the area’s go-to COVID reporter, where she attended weekly meetings with top healthcare officials and providing crucial updates to her community. Also, she anchored the newscasts at 6:30, 7, 7:30 p.m. newscasts. Her 7 p.m. newscast was the highest-rated in the region.

While in West Texas, Kassahun worked as an anchor and producer of the weekend evening newscasts. Also, she reports on crime and big stories during the week. She exposed the urgent need for foster care in the area in her Heart to Heart segment. One of her most unforgettable experiences there was broadcasting a grass fire that endangered a dynamite storage plant and compelled an entire community to evacuate. She followed the story closely until the fire was contained.
Kassahun has also worked as a reporter and producer in Idaho and Arkansas. Advocating for women’s health is an endeavor close to her heart. Growing up believing that health is wealth, she is devoted to maintaining a balanced lifestyle. She has sat on the board of For Our Daughters since 2022.
