Phil Rogers is an American multi-Emmy award-winning reporter who is working at NBC5 News. He joined the NBC 5 News news team in December 1991, as a general assignment reporter.

Rogers is a general assignment reporter who is working at NBC 5 News since December 1991. He has reported for NCB5 all through the United State and from the entire world. For two months, Rogers was in Kuwait and southern Iraq at the beginning of the war in Iraq. He reported from the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln and the directed-missile cruiser USS Shiloh during the Iraqi oil embargo in the Persian Gulf, was at the Pentagon in the aftermath of 9/11, and onboarded the USS Theodore Roosevelt when it departed for Afghanistan.
Prior to that, he enclosed the 1991 Gulf War from Tel Aviv and he has gone back to Israel two times for stories dealing with security matters of Chicagoans settling in the West Bank and Israel. He went together with Mayor Richard Daley to Jordan and Israel in May 2006.
He reported from the aircraft carrier USS George Washington on the way to Bosnia, and the nuclear submarine USS Chicago on the Pacific seas. In 2014 he took observers into the U.S Submarine Base in Groton, CT, where construction was going on, on the new USS Illinois. He reported the bombing of the Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City and the expulsion of the offending bomber Timothy McVeigh
Additionally, Rogers covered extensively from Washington during the impeachment of President Clinton, and the corruption scandals in the administrations of Illinois Governors George Ryan and Rod Blagojevich. Blagojevich carried out his final interview with Phil, minutes before getting into federal custody, which was his only television interview from inside prison.
He reported the Chicago 2016 Olympic bid and has also reported many Olympic Games in, Vancouver, London, and Beijing. He is a multiple Emmy Award winner, including a National Emmy for NBC-5’s report of the Burr Oak Cemetery scandal in Chicago, a unique story he reported in 2009. He has won Best Reporter honors from Associated Press five times and United Press International. He was awarded Edward R. Murrow Award for his analytical reporting on security at O’Hare Airport. Rogers has won the Peter Lisagor Award from the Chicago Headline Club many times. In 1974, Rogers joined Oklahoma State University where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Journalism and Broadcasting in 1977.
