Rich Cain Biography
Rich Cain is an American Emmy Award-Winning Meteorologist working for KHQA-TV serving as a chief meteorologist. Before joining KHQA-TV, he served as a reporter, TV weather anchor, and radio host at WGEM-TV in Quincy, Illinois.
Rich Cain Education
Rich completed his high school studies at Lade Horton Watkins High School. He then attended Broadcast Center in 1982 where he majored in Marketing, Audio Production, and Voice Training in 1985. In 2002, he enrolled at Mississippi State University where he graduated with a degree in Meteorology, Geoscience, and Atmospheric Science in 2005.

Cain serves as a chief meteorologist at KHQA-TV in Quincy, Illinois. While at KHQA-TV, he is in charge of various roles such as providing weather forecasting and fill-in as an anchor. He also facilitates education awareness and mentors coaches and junior staff. Rich has been with the station for more than eight years since he joined in March 2016.
Prior to working for KHQA-TV, he worked as a radio host, reporter, and TV weather anchor at WGEM-TV in Quincy, Illinois. As a reporter, Cain served the station for sixteen years from 1989 to 2005. After that, he secured a position as a chief meteorologist and radio host at the same station serving there for ten years from 2005 to December 2014. During his period there, he co-hosted a radio talk show as well as co-anchored a morning news.
Before joining WGEM-TV, Rich worked as an operations manager at WQCY in Quincy, Illinois from 1987 to 1989. He began his professional career at KRES/KWIX in Moberly, Missouri where he served as a radio presenter. His radio station was the first to have commercial Doppler weather radar installed in the country. Cain later moved from Moberly to Quincy where he served at a popular Top 40 music station called 99Q in 1987.
For his coverage in WGEM-TV, Rich was honored with multiple awards such as the prestigious Edward R. Murrow Award, a Midwest Emmy Award, and the Best Weathercast from Illinois. He was also awarded the Dove Award for his narration “America’s First Black Catholic Priest, Past The Boundary, and The Story of Augustine Tolton. Aside from being a journalist, Cain is also an active member of community work where he gives back to the community. Some of the organizations he volunteers for are The Salvation Army, Quincy Preserves, National Weather Service, and Quincy Humane Society.
